Experimental automation of silicon spin qubits
Quobly aims to have a strong impact on society by providing cost-effective universal quantum processors to solve currently unsolvable problems.
Founded in 2022, Quobly is a fast-growing start-up located in Grenoble’s vibrant and multidisciplinary ecosystem. The company relies on the CNRS Neel Institute and CEA-Leti and benefits from the dynamic of strong links between research and industry.
Context
Quobly is offering you an internship as Experimental automation of silicon spin qubits Engineer. The core of this work will be to understand the tuning process of silicon quantum dots and to develop machine learning (ML) algorithms to automate parts of this process. This problem has two main parts:
- First, data collected from different measurement stations will be labelled, and a method will be developed to replicate the images obtained from measurements.
- Second, a ML method will be implemented to validate the generated images, and another ML model will be developed to make predictions based on the generated and/or measured images.
Depending on the progress of the project, an initial exploration into approximating the cost function using neural networks will also be carried out. The tools and methods developed during this internship will contribute to the overall automation pipeline.
What awaits you every day at Quobly:
Technical challenges
- You will discover that Spin-based semiconductor qubits promise to be highly scalable, and a lot of effort has been made to use this platform. However, this system requires a series of calibrations that must be both reliable and very fast.
- You will participate to develop calibration algorithms that need to be agnostic to the wafer design or the fridge in which they are embedded.
- You will participate to the calibration challenge that are ML models, which can be trained on different datasets using either experimental datum.
- You will participate to use neural networks to approximate the cost function for reinforcement learning (RL), which is a powerful technique when the cost function is expensive to evaluate, highly variable, or very noisy—typical conditions we encounter when evaluating a cost function on our systems.
Collaboration
- Collaborate with talented people, in a culture of transparency and autonomy.
- Work in close collaboration with our clients.
- Work closely with your peers in the algorithmic teams.
